Guillaume Apollinaire
"L'Horloge De Demain"
Calligram published in issue number 4 of "391".
Calligrammes, subtitled Poems of war and peace 1913-1916, is a collection of poems by Guillaume Apollinaire, and was first published in 1918. Calligrammes is noted for how the typeface and spatial arrangement of the words on a page plays just as much of a role in the meaning of each poem, as the words themselves - a form called a calligram. In this sense, the collection can be seen as either concrete poetry or visual poetry. Apollinaire described his work as follows:
The Calligrammes are an idealisation of free verse poetry and typographical precision in an era when typography is reaching a brilliant end to its career, at the dawn of the new means of reproduction that are the cinema and the phonograph.

Paul Renner
German typographer Paul Renner is best known as the designer of the typeface Futura, which stands as a landmark of modern graphic design.Futura is a sans serif face designed between 1924 and 1926. It is based on geometric shapes which became representative visual elements of the Bauhaus design style of 1919-1933.As seen on the poster,
Wim Crouwel was director of the Dutch Boysmans-van Beuningen museum in Rotterdam who commissioned the British design group 8vo to design a series of museum posters with the stipulation that Futura be used 1989-1994.

Saul Bass- Vertigo
Saul Bass liked to use stark designs, spirals and favored black, white and red. The poster for Vertigo is a typical example of his movie poster work. The composition includes many visual elements that must work together. These include balance, font, color, perspective and emphasis. The font is a nervous one. The asymmetric font gives the impression of instability. Sometimes the strokes seem too long or short.Red is the color of blood. It has a provocative effect across cultures.Used together with the image of a man above a woman, the colors intensify the danger.Black and white are stark opposites. The actions of the figures and the swirling spiral express movement. This movement may draw us in as we fall headlong into the events we see.Saul Bass made decisions based on the likely reactions of people. The poster is accessible. It communicates information about the film and engages an audience.
